Vincent F. Lombardo, of Gibbstown, NJ, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 63, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. A beloved husband, devoted father, loving uncle, brother, loyal friend, and spirited soul, "Vinny" or "Papa Bear" was surrounded by his loving family and passed away peacefully after a long and trying battle with Leukemia, which he fought with the same grit and humor that defined his life.
Raised in Wenonah, NJ, Vince's strong work ethic and service to others began in his teenage years, delivering newspapers and volunteering at the Wenonah Fire Department. A 1980 graduate of Gateway High School, he was a talented athlete and enjoyed playing football, basketball, track and field. After high school, he proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, with deployments across the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean, and was a part of the Multi-National Peacekeeping Corp stationed in Beirut, Lebanon.
After completing his military service, Vince moved to Mullica Hill where he joined the Ferrell Volunteer Fire Department and EMS Squad. He then began his dedicated 35-year career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in his hometown of Wenonah, walking countless routes and forming lasting and loving connections and bonds with the people he served. Rain, snow, sleet or shine, and known for wearing his year-round shorts, "In-'Vince'-able" Vinny, was an unforgettable, familiar and friendly face in the neighborhood.
In 1987, Vince met the love of his life, Roseanne Chila and the two were married in 1990. Settling down in Gibbstown, where they raised their children, Natalie and Benjamin, they built a beautiful life together. Vince poured his energy into his family and community, coaching and announcing countless youth games, mentoring through Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and continuing his volunteer service as a Gibbstown firefighter and driver for the American Cancer Society. Vince was a proud life member of the Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 and past member of the Gibbstown Volunteer Fire Department.
Vince had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures: working in the yard, kayaking, antiquing, talking history and watching war movies, his beloved Philadelphia Sport teams and scenic drives. Vince especially loved his long road trips to Indiana to visit his daughter Natalie, with a stop in Ohio to see his best friend Brian along the way. A passionate train enthusiast, Vince and his son Benjamin enjoyed their day trips to Lancaster and around PA, always being sure to document their adventures on video. He was also known for singing karaoke with exuberance and always giving songs his own comical twist that had everyone laughing.
Vince could talk for hours, often with a quick wit or unexpected comment that left you laughing. Vince was unafraid to challenge you, debate you, and always held firm to what he believed. But that same spirit made him fiercely loyal, deeply passionate, and endlessly entertaining. Even in the face of illness, Vince never lost his sharp sense of humor or his love for others. His presence filled a room, and his heart made everyone feel welcome.
Vince is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Roseanne (nee Chila), his loving children Natalie (and her fiance Kyle) and Benjamin, as well as his adored canine companions, Winnie and Duke. He also leaves behind his sisters Anna (Mike) and Mary, brothers Tommy (Beth) and John, his nieces, nephews and countless friends, extended family, and all who were lucky enough to know him.
Vince lived big, loved deeply, and gave generously and was always "combat ready" for everything. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and service will never be forgotten.
