Obituary

Tony Leone passed away October 3, 2011, at home, with family by his side. He was born in Blairfor, Pa, and lived most of his life in Gibbstown. He graduated from Paulsboro High in 1940, and in 1944 he married Mary Keberski, his beloved wife of 67 yrs. Throughout his life Tony was successful in business and sales. During the 1940's he owned Tony's Luncheonette and Tony's Jewelry store on Broad Street in Paulsboro. In the 1950's he owned the Paulsboro Bottling Co. with business partner and brother-in-law Mario Corona. He went on to work for Majestic Wine & Spirits and was top company salesman for many years before he retired in 1985. A new career began after retirement when Tony sold real estate for J. Graham Chesney Agency and he continued selling homes and businesses well into his 80's .

Tony was a member of St. Michael's Church, Past President of St. Michael's Mutual Club and a regular volunteer at the annual St. Michael's celebration, where he loved greeting visitors and enjoying the festivities for many years. Tony was proud to become an Honorary Lifetime member of the Gibbstown Volunteer Fire Co. and was also a long time member of the Gibbstown Swim Club. He enjoyed playing golf and loved gardening, an activity that allowed him to fulfill his generous spirit of giving away the fruits of his labor to family and friends.

Nothing was more important to Tony than his family and he showed that with his love, caring, generosity, and, most of all, his wisdom. Tony felt blessed to have lived long enough to welcome 5 great-grandchildren into the Leone family, joining his 3 children and his 5 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Mary, children Nancy (Dan) Smuro, Peggy Leone Littleton, Sam (Cheryl) Leone, grandchildren Jason (Amy) Smuro, Matthew (Sarah) Smuro, Mary Elizabeth (Mike) Robbins, Sarah and Abigail Littleton, great-grandchildren Bradley, Tanner, Grace and Oscar Smuro, Emery Robbins, and his brother Frank (Anne) Leone. He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Piazza, Pauline (Piazza) Mento, Antoinette (Leone) Corona, Frances (Leone) Limanni and Rose (Leone) Ritter.

A Memorial for Tony will be on Saturday, visitation with the family 10-11am, at the St. Michael's Church, St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Memorial Ave., Gibbstown. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am. Interment will be private. If anyone wishes, in Tony's memory, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Clare of Assisi Parish, 140 Broad St., Swedesboro NJ 08085.
