Stanley F. Sarmiento, 80, of Gibbstown, passed away September 8, 2010. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he as been a resident of Gibbstown for the past 56 years. He is the husband of the late Frances (nee Corradetti) Sarmiento, beloved father of Stanley (Bonnie), Glenn (Tracy), Duane (Ellen), loving grandfather of Glenn, Jeffrey, Alexis, Mariesa, Gabrielle, Harley, Kristen, Cole and Michael.

For over 4 decades Stan loved coaching youth football and baseball. From 1956-1975 he managed Gibbstown Minor League, Little League and the Big League. He also assisted in forming the Gibbstown Girls Softball League. He began as an assistant coach for the Gibbstown Midget Football 110lb team and was the head coach of the Gibbstown 85ers from 1967-1985. He became President of the Gibbstown Midget Football organization and finished his coaching career by being an assistant coach of the 70 and 95lb football teams in the 1990's. When not coaching he enjoyed just going to the ball fields and watching the kids.

In 2002 Stan was inducted in the Paulsboro High School Sports Hall of Fame as a contributor. He was the first inductee that didn't attend Paulsboro High or coach there. He loved spending time and telling stories to his grandchildren, was an avid Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and A's fan. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War and was a member of the Anthony T. Calista VFW, Post 5579, Gibbstown NJ.

A viewing will be on Monday 6-9pm and Tuesday 9-10am, immediately followed by services at 10am, at the Landolfi Funeral Home of Paulsboro, 300 W. Broad Street. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Swedesboro. In lieu of flowers the family STRONGLY suggests donations be made to either the A.T.
