Passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at NJ Veteran's Memorial Home, Vineland, NJ, age 90yrs. Born in Mapleton, PA, he lived in Paulsboro, NJ for the past 86yrs. He attended the Paulsboro Public Schools and earned degrees from LaSalle University, Rowan University, and Temple University. Dr. Pinizzotto retired as Superintendent of Schools for Greenwich Twp, Gloucester County, in 1981. He was Dean of Instruction for Program Development and Community Services at Atlantic County College after serving as Professor of Education, Demonstration Teacher and Principal of the Campus School of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). He began his teaching career in the Clayton Public Schools in 1956 before teaching in the Paulsboro School System. He was a veteran of World War II, having served 3yrs in the South Pacific as a fixed-station radio operator where he earned four battle stars. He served 26yrs on the Paulsboro Board of Education and was as member of Phi Delta Kappa, American Association of School Administrators, NJ School Administrators' Association, and Gloucester County Retired Educators' Association. He was a member of the Paulsboro Sons of Italy Club and the Knights of Columbus, and served as president of the Paulsboro Senior Citizens Club and the Circolo Italiano of Southern NJ. Dr. Pinizzotto was also known as Sam Zotto, and was the guitarist and vocalist for the Oscar Dumont Orchestra which broadcast coast-to-coast three times a week over the CBS Radio Network from 1949 through 1957 from the Sunset Beach Ballroom (now Auletto Caterers). He was a member of the Delaware Valley Musicians' Club and conducted the Annual Scholarship Fund dinner-dances which has awarded 54 scholarships to music students at Rowan University. He is a gold-card, lifetime member of the Philadelphia Musical Society. As Sam Zotto, he performed many years with the Tommy Darro Orchestra, the Silhouettes, the Jonny Austin Orchestra and the Grateful Living Orchestra. Predeceased by his wife, Edith (nee Marcucci), he is survived by four children Russell (Geraldine), Samuel, Jr. (Donnis), Frances (Paul) Rufino, Joseph (Patricia), 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Nicholas, and predeceased by his sister, Concetta Roccia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 10:30am at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. John's Church, Beacon Ave, Paulsboro, NJ. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.
