Rodger Joseph Holst, age 73, passed away October 2, 2026, in the arms of his loved ones.
Rodger is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Denise; his two children, Maria (Ken) and Rodger T.; his two cherished grandchildren; five siblings; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Rodger earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University, a Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas Jefferson University, and a Master of Science degree from Rutgers University. He worked as a radiation physicist and instructor at Cooper for most of his career. He was published in Medical Physics, The International Journal of Medical Physics Research and a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. He was also employed at the Philadelphia VA Hospital.
His proudest roles were as Dad to his children and Popi to his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He enjoyed going to as many of his grandchildren’s baseball games, soccer games and musicals as he could.
Rodger loved traveling throughout Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. He had a remarkable talent for fixing and building just about anything. His warmth and sense of humor touched everyone he met. A natural jokester, he kept his siblings laughing throughout his life.
Rodger also enjoyed history, hiking, listening to music, watching the Phillies, relaxing in the sun and going for drives just to explore. He photographed landscapes and seascapes as he traveled.
Rodger was a living kidney donor and, in 2013, was the recipient of a kidney transplant himself. With this second chance at life he was gifted 13 more years to share with family and friends. A true blessing for all of us.
In loving memory of Rodger J. Holst, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Donate Life America (link) or the Jefferson Nicoletti Kidney Transplant Center (link). You may also register to be an organ donor through the DMV or The National Donate Life Registry (RegisterMe.org).
He will be forever loved and missed. Interment will be privately held and at the convenience of the family
