Obituary

Richard Benjamin Hunter Jr. 69; Passed away on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, peacefully with his family by his side.

Rick, Ricky to some, lived a life full of accomplishments, with stories that could go on for days and memories we will carry with us. Rick would not want us to be sad by his passing. In fact, during his final days, in true Rick fashion, he was more worried about everyone else. If someone was upset or crying, he would be sure to let them know that "It's okay, you'll be fine".

Rick grew up in Woodbury NJ where he played various sports, predominantly baseball. During his high school years at Woodbury High, he began playing football where earned the nickname of "HUNTER THE PUNTER" #40! Rick graduated in 1973 as senior class president. Right out of high school he spent some time as a volunteer firefighter before going on to marry the love of his life, Mary Lynne, on January 9th, 1982, and went on to have two children. While raising their children Rick was very active in the school and the community. He was PTA president with Mary Lynne and coached various sports teams for the town and St. Johns Elementary School. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his Uncle Don. They would go hunting and fishing together and even took a trip to Maine where Rick helped work on Uncle Don's cabin. In Rick's adult years he developed a love for working with his hands that led him to opening his own construction company where you can still see his work today throughout the houses in the area. During his years in construction, he found a new interest in flooring that led him to later be employed by FastTrack coatings, currently known as Paint Tech, where he began his journey in commercial floor coating. For the next 18 years Rick traveled up and down the east coast doing floors for places such as Andrews Air force Base, along with countless fire departments, car dealerships and multiple ambulance companies. During this time, he met two men, Jim McCarthy and Jason Skoglund, who held special place in his heart and impacted his life greatly. In Rick's free time you could find him with his sweet snacks in front of the TV watching CNN or crime shows, spending time with his daughter and grandsons or snuggling with his dogs Bucky & Pepper.

Rick is survived by his daughter and best friend Jessica Hofmann (Kaiyleb), his grandsons, Lucas and Jason Hofmann, his loving sister Kathleen Buchanan and his only niece Wendy Buchanan. Rick is also survived by his great nieces, cousins and many friends. Rick was predeceased by his parents Betty Jean and Richard Hunter Sr., His wife Mary Lynne and his son Richard (Ricky) Hunter III.

A Memorial will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the LANDOLFI FUNERAL HOME of Paulsboro, 300 W. Broad Street. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00am to 11:00am with a service immediately following

In lieu of flowers, Rick advised his daughter to request that donations be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as that was an organization that was close to his heart, where he made regular donations throughout his years.
