Obituary

Mary Alice Lyons (nee Carter), 96, formerly of Gibbstown, passed away November 8, 2014 in Shady Lane Nursing Home. Born in Minnesota, resided there until moving to NJ in 1948. She was an educator for 43 years, having taught in Minnesota and NJ public schools. Graduated from Fairmont Teachers College, Mankato State Teachers College and Glassboro State/Rowan University. She was a member of the Gloucester County Education Assoc., NJ Education Assoc., National Education Assoc., life member of the NJ Retired Educators Assoc., National Educators Retired Assoc. and member of the NJ School Women's Club. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and St. Michael's Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Catholic Daughters of America over 50 years, in the Court of St. Joan of Arc #1691, Court Queen of Peace #1398 in Woodbury, member of the Greenwich Twp Senior Citizens, program chairman for 8yrs, was treasurer and on the executive committee for the Gloucester County Retired Educators Assoc. Mary Alice's love of teaching and devotion to each student whose special needs and outstanding talents were her first priority. As she always remembered, she was teaching students first and subjects second. This successful education for the student developed a life-long friendship with many students.

Predeceased by her husbands Raymond L. and Donald (Mike) Lyons, survived by sister-in-laws Louise and Agnes Carter, niece Patricia Carter, Patricia Griffin, Lindsay Hammel, Wendy Veiga, God-Children: Michele Pszwaro Hyde, Cheryl Ordille Pindur, Leona Perletta Davis and Keith Hammel. Also survived by Marshall Crocker, a wonderful blessing for his love and sincere loyal devotion, he gave great assistance to her, adding unlimited happiness, beauty and peace to Mary Alice's life.

A viewing will be on Thursday 9-10AM at the St. Clare of Assisi Parish (St. Michael's Church), 313 Memorial Ave., Gibbstown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am. Interment Woodbury Memorial Park, Woodbury. In her memory contributions may be made to the Guardian Angels School, 150 S. School St., Gibbstown NJ 08027.
