Marie Elaine Wallon, lovingly known as Miss Marie, passed peacefully into eternal rest on March 17, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born Nov. 22, 1946, in Olean, NY, Marie always considered Olean her true hometown and spoke often of her Polish family roots and the happy summers she spent there. Those early memories remained very close to her heart throughout her life.
Marie graduated from Paulsboro High School (Class of 1964) and went on to dedicate years of faithful service to the Borough of Paulsboro, where she became known as the quiet force who helped keep everything running. She managed payroll for borough employees and assisted with many of the daily operations of Borough Hall. Marie was known as diligent, trustworthy, and deeply committed to doing her work well.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Marie was a devoted Catholic and a parishioner of Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church in Paulsboro, NJ. Her faith guided her daily life. She prayed the Rosary faithfully, cherished the Blessed Mother, and held special devotion to Saint Stephen and Saint Cecilia, the patron saints connected to her family. Her beliefs were not just words — they were how she lived.
Marie found joy in simple and beautiful things. She loved her dogs, especially her beloved companion Bailey, who brought her great comfort and happiness. She enjoyed crocheting, reading Christmas romance paperback novels, listening to Engelbert Humperdinck, and spending quiet time reflecting on her faith. She especially cherished the warmth of spring and summer, taking pleasure in the sunshine and enjoying fresh New Jersey produce at its peak.
She also never lost her love for her Polish heritage, especially traditional foods like pierogies and kielbasa, which always brought her comfort and happy memories.
More than anything, Marie loved her family and friends. She was known as a loyal friend who stayed connected with people throughout her life. Among those she held close were her beloved cousin Betsy, friends Rita Costenbader, Barbara Sockwell, Darlene Davis, and her devoted helper and friend Dianne Forand, who assisted her in her later years.
Marie will be remembered as a gentle, faithful, hardworking woman who loved deeply, believed sincerely, and gave her best to the people and responsibilities entrusted to her. Those who knew her will remember her quiet strength, her devotion to her church, and her kind heart.
Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so much. Family and friends are invited to her viewing, Wednesday March 25, 2026, at the St. Clare of Assisi Parish (St. Michael's Church), Memorial Avenue, Gibbstown NJ, from 10am-10:30am, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am.
