John P. Fabiani, "Mr. Fab", 89, of Gibbstown, passed away at home with his family by his side. He is the beloved husband of 69 years to Rose (nee D'Onofrio), devoted father of Rosalind (William) DeCinque, Mannington Twp., Louis (Nancy) Fabiani, Carol (Mark) Montemore, Gibbstown, Thomas (Patsy) Fabiani, Kentucky, John (Laura) Fabiani, West Chester Pa., loving grandfather of Ann Giovannitti, David and James DeCinque, Julie Harris, Gene and Christopher Montemore, Elizabeth Higgins, Gena Brittain, Michael, Maria, Joseph, Peter Fabiani, great grandfather of Sarah, Carlo, Mary Kate, Marcella, Marco, Nicolas, Luca and Walter. Also survived by sisters Anna Severson, Helen Thompson, of Gibbstown, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by grandsons Louis and John Fabiani Jr.
He was a life long resident of Gibbstown, attended Greenwich Twp School and a 1938 graduate of Paulsboro High School. He is a World War II Navy Veteran, served 2 1/2yrs in the Pacific Theater of Operations in the Soloman Islands to Bismarck Archipelago. He served as a Pharmacist Mate specializing as a surgical technician, and because of his speciality he flew with dangerous air/sea rescue.
Upon discharge from the service he helped organize the Anthony T. Calista Post 5579 VFW, where he served as Post Commander.
For 42 years he was employed at the DuPont Organic Chemistry Jackson Laboratory in Deepwater NJ. He spent 27 years as Foreman and Supervisor and the last 17 years as Technician Supervisor.
For many years John served as Chairman of the local Memorial Day ceremonies, involved in the founding of the Gibbstown Little League in 1952, the building of the Gibbstown Swim Club, in charge of the Gibbstown Shade Tree Commission, member of the Gibbstown Community Dispute committee, member of the St. Michael's Church, St. Michael's Club, DuPont Veterans and Pensions Assoc. and the NJ Beekeepers Assoc.
John was loved for his engaging stories of his childhood and Gibbstown history, always full of incredible details and dates. Being widely read he was always current on finances, politics and sports issues. Being a loyal sports fan of Paulsboro and St. James HS, John and his wife Rose were always present to support their families sports activities.
A viewing will be on Thursday 6-8pm and Friday 9:30-10:15am, at the St. Michael's Church, St. Clare of Assis Parish, Memorial Ave., Gibbstown. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30am. Interment Eglington Cemetery. If anyone wishes contributions may be made to the VFW Post 5579 Hospital Fund, 743 W.
