JAMES DAVID BOYLAN, USN RET, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in Norristown, PA, to Mary Agnes (nee Hayes) and Charles Patrick Boylan on July 29, 1926. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Barbara Jane (nee Riles). He is survived by his two daughters, Florence Eileen Beckett (George) and Mary Elizabeth Boylan (David Stellitano); grandchildren Jeffrey Stellitano (Melissa), Rachael Leah Harris (Christopher), and Rebecca Grace Vanaman (Austin Racer); and a growing brood of great-grandchildren that currently includes Luke James Llerena and Beau Westcott, Lydia Elaine, and Colton Eugene Harris.

He found his true calling in the US Navy where he served for nearly 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II as well as the wars in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy he worked a few odd jobs before landing in his second career as a school teacher at Camden County Vocational Technical School. He worked there for another 30 years and exhibited his brilliance and erudition by teaching a variety of subjects including math; electricity; and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. After retiring from his paid vocations he volunteered over the next couple of decades at the Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, followed by the Civil War Museum and Library in Philadelphia, and finally at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, New Jersey, where he was renowned for his reliability and sartorial excellence. At the conclusion of his volunteer career he devoted himself full-time to reading books and magazines and following current events on BBC and NPR. He was a devoted family man, and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
