Obituary

Domenica I. Grant (nee) Ferretti, 86, of West Deptford, formerly a longtime resident of Gibbstown, went home to our Lord on March 20. She was welcomed by her husband of 35 years, Donald C. Grant, Sr. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Olga Marcucci, Anna Konzik and Jean Zinn; son-in-law, Terrence K. Riggs and daughter-in-law, Amy D. Grant.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Donald Grant, Jr.; Robert Grant, Sr.; Paul Grant (Virginia); Argia Riggs; Sara Gray (Frank); her grandchildren: Robert Grant, Jr., Nichole Trainor (William); Matthew Grant (Elanna); Laura Valver (Joseph), Stephanie Applegate (TJ), Tyler Riggs, Casey Riggs, Connor Gray, Austin Gray, Kendal Gray; her great-grandchildren: Emily, Sophia, Nathan, Ryan, Wyatt, Bella, Aryhana and Logan; as well as her sister, Diana E. Agren.

Born in Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region of Italy, Domenica "Hazel" immigrated to the United States in 1935. She graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She worked at Underwood-Memorial Hospital for over 40 years, where in addition to her nursing duties on the medical-surgical staff, she was responsible for training all levels of nursing personnel. She retired as the Director of Nursing Education, but her true love was her years spent in L&D delivering babies. Domenica facilitated community education programs including the Young at Heart Club for Seniors, the I Love Kids Campaign, Freedom From Smoking, the Medical Explorer Scouts and served on many hospital committees. She was a group facilitator for NAMI, on the advisory board of IFSS for NewPoint Behavioral Center and volunteered monthly for the American Red Cross Blood Drive.

She was a fantastic cook, loved to read and listen to opera, and called travel her "Achilles' heel." She belonged to St. Clare of Assisi Church where she was a Lector for many years.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8PM and again on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11am at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Michael's Church, 313 Memorial Ave, Gibbstown, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am in the church. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Swedesboro.
