Charles P. Breen, 77, of Gibbstown, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He is the devoted husband of 54 years to "Ginny" (nee Volpe), loving father of Chuck, Michelle Rutherford and Steve (Sherry) Breen, grandfather of Stefanie, Kevin, Chelsea, Lance Cpl Robert, Steve, Mike, great grandfather of Stevie and beloved brother of Mary Daley and Bill Breen. Predeceased by his grandson J.R.
Charlie was born and raised in Arlington, Mass, earned a degree in Engineering from Northeastern and spent his career in naval aviation, retiring as a program manager of 35 years from the Naval Aviation Engineering Service Unit. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was always actively involved with his family and community. He served on the Gibbstown Library Board, was the town Zoning Administrator and on the Planning Board for over a decade. He was active in his childrens' activities, serving as head umpire in the Little League, Cub Scout and Brownie Treasurer. Following retirement he kept active in the community serving as a Crossing Guard and was a long time member of the St. Michael's Mutual Club, serving as a Bar Manager. He especially enjoyed working as a volunteer for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Charlie had a voracious appetite for life, loving his family, his career and his travels. He believed that no one ever really dies, they live in your hearts forever. His memory and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A viewing will be on Sunday 7-9pm and Monday 8:15-9:15am at the LANDOLFI FUNERAL HOME of Paulsboro, 300 W. Broad St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am at the St. Michael's Church, St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Memorial Ave., Gibbstown. Interment Eglington Cemetery.
