Obituary

Carmen ("Meech") Perogine, 85, of Port Charlotte Fla, formerly of Gibbstown, passed away April 25, 2010, on his 57th wedding anniversary.

He was born on July 16, 1924, to Vincenzio and Judetta Perogine of Gibbstown. After graduating Paulsboro High School, Carmen entered the 16th Armored Division in the 3rd Army, 26 Tank Battalion, in the medic division, stationed in Germany, where he earned a bronze star and a WWII victory medal. On April 25, 1953, he married Ethel (nee DeCord), built their home in Gibbstown and started their family.

For 38 years he worked at Mobil Research & Development as an instrument mechanic. He was a member of St. Michael's Club, Church and band for many years. He was on the Greenwich Twp. Recreation Committee and enjoyed hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children as well as for his infamous sweet tooth. Known for his sense of humor, he often entertained the St. Michael's Men's Club with his well delivered jokes and stories. He enjoyed his hobby of making homemade red wine and testing its flavor each evening with dinner.

After retirement he spent his summers in Sea Isle City with his family. In 1987 they went to Port Charlotte, where they were snow birds, then permanently moved in 1994, where they enjoyed almost 30 more years together. They made wonderful friends, memories, and took several cruises, always teasing that he was spending his children's inheritance.

Carmen is survived by his beloved wife, Ethel of Port Charlotte, daughters Janice (Jim) Schultz, Swedesboro, Denise (Ken) Borelli, Pedricktown, Sharon (Lenny) Sanderlin, Port Charlotte, Lorraine Roberts and fiancee Robert Reeves, Gibbstown, grandchildren Jonathan and Hilary Maden, Randi and Julia Roberts, Michael Schultz, step-grandson Kevin Borrelli and great-grandaughter Kayla Rose O'Brien.
