Obituary

Carl J. Valentino, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 26, 2016. He was the husband of the late Hester Taylor Valentino and the late Doris Cooke Valentino. Devoted father of Carl, Jr., (Barbara), Amelia, Elena, Victoria Bayoud (Alain) and Joseph. Loving grandfather of Trey Valentino, Michael Valentino, Howard Thompson, Sheila Connelly, Michelle Colarusso, Raymond Bayoud and Shawn Clawson. Also, survived by seven great-grandchildren, Savanna Valentino, Nicholas Valentino, Liam Todd, Madeline Todd, Angelina Robostello, Kiera Colarusso and Dominic Colarusso. Carl is survived by brothers Willie and Fortunato (Edith) and sisters Irene Arena and Rita Cox.

Carl was a veteran of World War II where he served in Iran and Marseilles, France. He worked at the Texaco Refinery in Westville for 31 years as an Instrumentation Mechanic and a foreman. After retirement, he turned his talent for auto repair into a full-time business. Over the years, he purchased damaged automobiles, almost always Buicks, repaired them and then sold them. Carl estimated that he bought and sold over 100 vehicles this way. He was a founding member of the Raccoon Creek Boat Club. A life-long fisherman, Carl enjoyed many happy hours on his fishing boat in the Delaware Bay. Many will remember Carl with gratitude for his help with numerous problems and construction projects.
